The tenor Bert Luttjeboer was born on the 8th of January 1960 in Groningen, the Netherlands, as the oldest son of Meindert Luttjeboer and Stientje Bakker. Bert played in Groningen during his schoolcarreer on the Praedinius Gymnasium a leading character in THE SEAGULL of Tjechov. After his graduation he studied drama at the Academy of Performing Arts in Maastricht (1978-1980) and got his vocal education by Charles van Tassel at the Sweelick Conservatory (1981-1985). He also took dancing- and balletclasses at several institutions. During this period Bert appearded as a principal player in several productions of CREA, including DON QUICHOTTE CHEZ LA DOUCHESSE (Sancho Pancha), ET RETABLO DE MAESE PEDRO (Maese Pedro) and MOZART AND SALIERI (Mozart). He has gathered choir experience by singing at the Dutch Theatre Choir, Toonkunstkoor Amsterdam and vocal ensemble Ottovoci.

This multidisciplinare education resulted in a versatile profession. Besides classical recitals and concerts, appearences for the Dutch radio and television in different musical genres (classical, opera, jazz, musical), including Seth Gaaikema's New Year's Eve Act NOG 1 DAG OM HET GOED TE MAKEN in 1988. Bert starred in the Netherlands and foreign countries in musical productions such as 20th CENTURY GERMAN & DUTCH THEATRE MUSIC, A TSAR HAS HIS PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN, BLUE APPLE, FROM BERLIN TO BROADWAY WITH KURT WEILL, OPERATION ORPHEUS, BASTIEN AND BASTIENNE (Bastien), WHERE THE CROSS IS MADE (Doctor Higgins), DIE KLUGE (Vagabond) and UN MALHEUREUX VÊTU DE NOIR, a production by Jan van Vlijmen. In 1984 he sang the part of Lindbergh in DER LINDBERGHFLUG and in LEHRSTUCK, both produced by the Handke-Weiss Company. At this company Bert played from 1984 to 1987 other principal parts in BERLIN 1930, THE UNKNOWN KURT WEILL (with a.o. compilations from LADY IN THE DARK and LOST IN THE STARS), THE SILVER LAKE (Severin) en THE LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY. During the Festival du Berry in Châtillon-sûr-Indres, France, you could see him play Damon in ACIS AND GALATHEA.

In 1985 he appeared as a singer, dancer and actor in the modern rock-opera I JAN CREMER. There Bert was asked by composer Konrad Boehmer to sing the leading role of Woutertje in his opera WOUTERTJE PIETERSE, which opened in 1988. In this year he could also be heard in THE SONG OF THE EARTH. Besides that he appeared at the Theatre Festivals of 1988 and 1989 in THE CHILD OF THE STATE, THE PRESCIENCE and THE DUTCHESS OF CORALLI respectively. In 1991 and 1992 Bert was a castmember of the successful Dutch production of LES MISÉRABLES. In this musical he played among other parts the roles of Bishop, the students Lesgles and Grantaire and covered in an inimitable way the villainous landlord Thénardier.

During the run of Les Mis, the first sympthoms of an HIV-infection were diagnosed by Bert. His last project was the Hanlo-cyclus WIJ KOMEN TER WERELD of the Amsterdam Choir, to which he co-operated as a soloist and which successfully opened in De Rode Hoed in Amsterdam in 1993. Besides that, Bert tought at the Musical department of the Royal Conservatory of Bruxelles led by Peter De Smet.

Bert died in Amsterdam on the 3th of March 1995, aged 35 in consequence of the aids disease.
